I quess in this context in mainly symbolizes cooperation, while being finnish. It was used in the old finnish markka coinage and in the logos of kalevala society and in finnish-soviet frindship society logo. I just thought it was cool and fitting.

Just found this while reading about Maoist history in China. I think it's highly exploitable, very much like the classic porky cartoon. This one has the theme of mocking topics relating to imperialism.

>>870867 >tfw when there's no mucho texto That's true, excuse me. Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_tiger >"Paper tiger" is a literal English translation of the Chinese phrase zhilaohu (纸老虎/紙老虎). The term refers to something or someone that claims or appears to be powerful or threatening, but is actually ineffectual and unable to withstand challenge. The expression became well known internationally as a slogan used by Mao Zedong, leader of the People's Republic of China, against his political opponents, particularly the U.S. government. >Origin 纸老虎/紙老虎 is an ancient phrase. It is translated as "paper tiger" in a work by John Francis Davis that published before Opium War I.[1] Unsigned Nixon administration White House minutes attribute to two members of a Beijing delegation the admission that one had invented the expression, followed by laughter all around.[2] >Use >Mao Zedong first introduced his idea of paper tigers to Americans in an August 1946 interview with American journalist Anna Louise Strong:[3] >The atom bomb is a paper tiger which the U.S. reactionaries use to scare people. It looks terrible, but in fact it isn't. Of course, the atom bomb is a weapon of mass slaughter, but the outcome of a war is decided by the people, not by one or two new types of weapon. All reactionaries are paper tigers. In appearance, the reactionaries are terrifying, but in reality they are not so powerful.[4] >In a 1956 interview with Strong, Mao used the phrase "paper tiger" to describe American imperialism again: >In appearance it is very powerful but in reality it is nothing to be afraid of; it is a paper tiger. Outwardly a tiger, it is made of paper, unable to withstand the wind and the rain. I believe that it is nothing but a paper tiger.[5] >In 1957, Mao reminisced about the original interview with Strong: > In an interview, I discussed many questions with her, including Chiang Kai-shek, Hitler, Japan, the United States and the atom bomb. I said all allegedly powerful reactionaries are merely paper tigers. The reason is that they are divorced from the people. Look! Wasn't Hitler a paper tiger? Wasn't he overthrown?[6] >In this view, "paper tigers" are superficially powerful but are prone to overextension that leads to sudden collapse. When Mao criticized Soviet appeasement of the United States during the Sino-Soviet split, Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev reportedly said, "the paper tiger has nuclear teeth".[7] >In The Resistance to Theory (1982), Paul de Man used the phrase to reflect upon the threat of literary theory to traditional literary scholarship in American academia. He said, "If a cat is called a tiger it can easily be dismissed as a paper tiger; the question remains however why one was so scared of the cat in the first place".[8]

>>884616 maybe Simone Weil? https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/simone-weil/ You could also add St. Francis and St. Paul, both have been studied in a positive light by some recent leftist philosophers (Badiou, Žižek, Agamben).
>>884616 >>884889 Completely forgot: if you add St. Francis you might also add St. Clare alongside, who was the female counterpart of Franciscan movement.

>>884889 >"According to her friend and biographer, Simone Pétrement, Weil decided early in life that she would need to adopt masculine qualities and sacrifice opportunities for love affairs in order to fully pursue her vocation to improve social conditions for the disadvantaged. From her late teenage years, Weil would generally disguise her "fragile beauty" by adopting a masculine appearance, hardly ever using makeup and often wearing men's clothes." tfw no tomboy anarchist mystic gf

>>908465 Why do Christians always talk like boomers? Is it because their parents beat them when they cursed?
>>908465 Jesus Christ this is pathetic. I'm the OP of >>885054 and they, as expected, entirely missed the point. The idea wasn't to take a jab at "Queer interpretations" nor to reinforce "patriarchal dominance," it was to highlight the utter infantility and impotence of self-described "radical" Christians. It is a movement defined by half-gestures and kiddie-pool deep faith - but if you beat your drum and say how bad the Catholic Church is you must be a good person, right? Who cares about striving to improve the material conditions of all people when you can simply be a liberal.
>>908473 >I thought the Bible was written with divine inspiration lmao these guys don't even believe in their own religion They don't give a shit about anything tbh. They're all worshipping a version of Jesus that was recuperated by the Roman Empire after 300 years of persecution failed to wipe out the radical sentiment he stirred up. Something kind of similar may happen with socialism and Marx in the near future.
