VR is cool.
I don't get why it isn't mainstream yet. They are cheap AF for how awesome they are, I got a WMR headset for 230 bucks new. Literally every genre is better in VR. Even if I could only play Pavlov and Elite Dangerous I would still be obsessed.

4X Games - Civ, Alpha Centauri, Shadow Empire
General for 4X games, but also an opportunity to introduce you all to a new game called Shadow Empire.
The game has an incredibly deep planet generation system that affects gameplay massively, including rotation of the planet (lol), makeup of the atmosphere, terrain, mineral deposits and alien life. It also has a logistics system to make you supply your units with food and ammunition, if they run out of supply they'll be very weak so you need to keep expanding the supply lines to the front and also making sure the enemy cannot cut you off. Obviously being encircled is very bad news for your troops.
You start as a minor "Regime" and your goal is to conquer the planet after the previous galaxy wide regime collapsed sending most of it into civil war and apocalypse. Each regime can be run differently and has different perks based on decisions you make throughout the game. For example if people start striking you can send in the army to deal with them (autocracy) or just pay them off (democracy), alternatively you can avoid the situation entirely by administrating the zones well, but that may lead to other troubles like a lack of credits for purchasing resources. You can run a mix of different systems so your decisions aren't set in stone for you but there are bonuses to always picking a certain method like unique units and stratagems, which are like ideological playing cards.

GETchan VN collaboration project
So our idea was as follows (as I understand what we discussed)
We want to make a VN in Ren'py because the software/coding is pretty easy.
moo_moo knows how to code python for the backend
hardkoba does nice sexy art for the characters
spurdo does 3d and 2d works and can possibly do the backgrounds and/or other design elements
caballo is a writer and can write the novel bit
pepe_pp does writing and some art and can assist with those
moo_moo also does music (electronic) so can handle that
Other people may want to contribute with their skills of course.
Main character lives in present day Earth sadly because capitalism and the ongoing social collapse sucks.
He possibly idly signs some form agreeing to be part of some preservation experiment if he dies.
He then dies shortly afterward, either through suicide or through random accident/calamity
MC's brain is stored in a 'science chamber' (or whatever) at a university for research, either because he signed the forms or because he is special in some other way and was picked out. Eventually, his brain simply becomes a display piece/teaching aid for med students.
30-50 years later, the climate crisis comes to a head and capitalist society is destroyed due to resource shortages, wars, et cetera, some years later, the people take power globally and start the work of rebuilding society along communist lines.
150-200 years after our story starts, a team of scientists decides to use MC's brain in an experiment to attempt to resurrect him, possibly they have tried previously and his is the first time it has worked, or the project has never been tried before but a mad scientist at the university decides to try it on a whim with MC's brain.
After some time, MC's body is regrown and he awakes in a brave new world, with the last thing he remembers having been his death.
He is dazed and confused at first for obvious reasons and does not really know if he's alive or dead. Of course he is told what had happened but doesn't quite understand/believe it.
Eventually MC is up and moving around, and he is shown the brave new world by, most likely, the love interests.
The utopian abundance of the world actually convinces him moreso that he has gone to heaven/'the good place' and that nothing is really real.
That's really as far as we got, but MC has to deal with existential crises like whether anything is real, whether he is even the same person as the one he remembers being (due to consciousness stopping, etc), whether he fits in in this world and if he should have even been resurrected to begin with, and so on.
The world should be utopian communism, but will probably not call itself that due to entryism and not wanting to immediately put people off. MC will be amazed by the freedom and choice that people have, the lack of money, the fact that anyone can do basically whatever they want (within reason), and is both in awe and deeply alienated by the new society.
MC also finds it hard to fit in because social conventions have changed drastically, with people generally being much more communal, having more loose ideas of who owns what and sharing, people being more sexually open and less private in general, the commonness of polygamy, orgies, et cetera, and the lack of (as he sees it) personal boundaries and so on.
We have come to an impasse about the appearances of the people that surround MC. Some of us believe that it would be a society of largely mixed race, healthy and generally attractive looking people who put less emphasis on appearance due to the fact that appearances can be relatively easily changes/corrected/modified.
Others would prefer a world of diversity and sexual 'novelty' where people's bodies have been extensively modified to fit their personalities, with the physical form being a representation of the internal mind. People would be diverse, strange, and some would be transhuman (ie. possibly furries, elves, catgirls, or even more exotic thing). So, I guess we have to decide on that.
We also agreed that ideally the MC should be gender flexible (he/she/they) to player choice, but I have used he for simplicity.
Sex scenes would be enabled in the game put able to be disabled/skipped like many other VNs.
Ideally, there should be femboys in the game as romance options as well as women.
Anyways, I might have forgotten some things, but that's about as far as we got, I believe. Let's hope we stick with it and the project isn't just an idle idea that is thrown into the ether and forgotten!

Call of Duty
I know about its factual inaccuracies. That it's just a copy of enemy at the gates. However let me explain how this was many kids first exposure to the ussr and what a great job it did communicating through gameplay what the war was.
The soviet campaign takes place last in the game, after the british and american ones. Throughout the game you visit many locations and the mood is an adventurous one. Soldiers remark on celebrating with bottles of wines from french cellars, the beauty of the architecture besides the one or two artillery shelled buildings. And there's never any shortage in supplies.
This quickly changes with the soviet campaign. From the start the design is something that looks like hell. There's no green grass, the sky isn't even blue. Every single building is destroyed by shelling. And what really let you know shit just got real, you don't even get a gun.
They didn't teach ww2 history besides d-day and the atomic bomb, so to a child, this was formative. The creators did an unmatched job communicating the disparity between east and west fronts in the war. It was very clear all of a sudden that the soviets were fighting for their survival in a way the british and americans weren't.
So bravo to call of duty, regardless of how shit it might have become later on, this game will always be one of the greatest achievements of the medium.

What faction would a principled Marxist side with in Fallout: New Vegas?
I though about starting this thread in /hobby/, but considering I'm not interested in talking about the merits of the game-itself, and rather to discuss the specific dilemma of factions, I thought I'd get a more focused discussion here.
The Wildcard ending notwithstanding, there are principally three different factions in the game you can side with: Caesar's Legion, New California Republic, and Mr. House. To begin, Caesar's Legion is a fascist power lead by a historical materialist (even though the writers somewhat misrepresent Hegel in their dialogue about the dialectic, the general theme is maintained) most players misunderstand Caesar as just a LARPer rather than someone who is genuinely trying to restart history. His Legion, is admittedly a hegemonic autocracy that Caesar intends to use to subjugate humanity under one banner, so that their collective progress would be accelerated. It's entirely possible to interpret Caesar as just history's janitor trying to send humanity back through the motions and antiquity to try and reach a better result than rushing back to the "good ol' days" like the NCR, rather than someone who takes pleasure in creating a slave society that is an objectively malignant entity.
The NCR is presented as the return of the old Bourgeois Dictatorship of the US, their government is a corrupt expansionist bureaucracy that can only adequately administrate war, meanwhile the actual body of the legislation itself has a lineage of benevolent autocrats (tandy) and is ruled by the interest of the "brahmin barons" (kulaks), this is a critique that Caesar presents in his analysis of the NCR (which happens to sound out-of-context Marxian). Caesar correctly identifies the NCR as a reincarnation of the failed Bourgeois state that brought about the very predicament of the wasteland, and seeks to use them as his component in creating a society apt enough to the material conditions of the wasteland.
The strangest character in this dynamic is Mr. House, if the NCR is a light veil for a Bourg dictatorship, then Mr. House is an open window, making no illusions to the player about his proposed autocratic status and ex-Bourg origin. Since the wasteland cannot be considered Capitalist (as a true economic analysis of the Fallout universe would lack too many necessary factors to be accurate) we have to assume that the wastes can be best surmised as a scavenger-economy wherein the most valuable resource is electricity and armaments, the wasteland does still have capitalistic elements (the barons of the NCR being a good example, as well as Crimson Caravan and Gunrunners) but lacks the infrastructure to maintain a conventionally capitalist society (and thereby is also incapable of creating a socialist society unless material conditions change).
I'd propose that due to this, the best choice for a Marxist in the wasteland is to side with whichever faction has the best capacity to create industry in the wasteland. All the factions in the maingame (and characters in the DLC hint at this theme, but would take to long to discuss) are representations of differing ideological states: the NCR being a bourgeois dictatorship under the farce of democracy, the Legion being a fascist army with the goals (at least the goals of Caesar) of restarting humanity's cultural progress, and Mr. House who breaks the mold as an autocratic Technocrat. You might refer to House as the supreme corporatist, but he's likely the only one possessing of the ability to either industrialize the wasteland or to simply leave Earth behind for Mars, despite being the most comically capitalist entity in Fallout (a series that from inception was an inherent critique of Nationalist Capitalism), House is likely the best choice for a principled Marxist, the NCR would lead humanity into a similar state of global capitalism, it too perhaps has the capacity to industrialize the wastes like Mr. House (and in face House intends to use them largely for a similar purpose) but Mr. House presents perhaps and easier path, because House is a planned economist, regardless of all the old-world business aesthetic, House is someone who would be a literal computer-god who plans the economy. House claims to be an objective ruler with a more important grand vision than say the short-term emulators of the NCR, who despite their uses to him, House rejects as the planners of the economy (potentially because he recognizes like Caesar, their inherent contradictions). In any event of House winning, the inevitable desire of the Marxist Courier would be to have him killed or deposed, I left out Yesman in this little essay because I thought that would be to filled with assumptions to really consider, because of course the obvious answer would be "courier and yes man takes over and the Comrade Courier uses Yesman to create an epic planned economy, Communism 100." A ending which to me seems really silly to rationalize in the context of the setting, to be clear, I don't think F:NV has any Marxist faction or even a Marxian theme, it's themes are focused around nostalgic ideology and the Gnostic need to either destroy the past or worship it. To the end of advancing the Fallout Universe to the next stage of history, I think Mr. House is the only one who even has the capacity to achieve it, even if he's a terrifying computer God who could only be removed by his "employees" in the most idealized scenario.
As Benny puts it: "Mr House hides Vegas under his skirt when the bombs drop so it's his? forever?" not that Benny is a proletarian revolutionary or anything, but a Mr. House ending would require that House be willing to take on proteges or somehow put himself in a position to be removed, but since that's a question more of game mechanics than narrative, I'll ignore it. Am I wrong? Who do you think a Marxist should choose?

Vidya Cliches You Hate
>Game features some type of Kalashnikov assault rifle and an SVD as available weapons
>They're inexplicably the weakest, shittiest weapons in their categories whereas some type of NATO or Amerifat weapon is the strongest
The only series I can think of that doesn't do that is STALKER, where the SVD actually owns.
On a similar note:
>Fire a shotgun
>It has an effective range of like 10 feet
STALKER also thankfully averts this, as does Far Cry 3 from what I recall.

So I got addicted to this damn game, and I think it has a lot of leftist potential. Your character is rooted in anti-capitalism, and there's even a corporation destroying the environnement and community life. Two NPCs bear scars from imperialism (Kent, a soldier) and capitalism (Shane, a depressive alcoholic working a 9-5). Besides from that there aren't many references to ideologies (except for the religion of Yoba and a book against the war). What would you think of a mod adding more political substance to Pelican Town? (for example an active faction against Joja, or NPC helping you rebuilding the CC). I don't like this idea that everyone in this town with so much free time gave up that quickly their community center, and you are the only one able to save it with your bare hands.

Piracy general thread. Share your sources and techniques.
Here's a website I found recently which seems ok but as always, use are your own risk and use protection (adblock/script blockers).
Not sure how clean it is but I detected no malware in my downloads (brows with adblock on of course). The website links to repackages of stuff produced by the major cracking scene groups (CODEX etc.) The files are hosted on free file upload sites like mega.nz and rapidgator. I have not used those sites in years so I can't say how safe and reliable they are. One shitty thing about their donwload links is they obscure the link behind some shitty ad infested link protector but I noticed the real URLs to the file are embedded in the URL of the link protector URL allowing you to bypass the ads.
Large games are split into multiple parts and are not convenient to DL through these free file upload services due to wait times and download limits. But if you're pirating a small older game or indie game it's pretty easy.
You want to DL this file, igg-games website has this link using bluemediafiles link protector (do not click link)
notice the URL for the real download link on mega.nz is inside the url
simply use that portion of the url:

But why? Unless it's actually a phase thing where the new rocky bits including the skull face/mask go away after enough damage and exposes the old fleshy design, it's a total downgrade. The horns seem to be the same general shape and the new face has a hollow top, making it look like a mask. That's the only way I see how the redesign can work.

So I'm not an experienced game developer or anything, but I figured we should have a general dedicated to this sort of thing, especially since I'm interested to hear peoples' ideas on lefty-orientated videogames that would be cool for me to make.
I've been using Blender since I was 11 or 12 years old (I'm 20 now) so I'm pretty much at a level now where I can model any game asset I want. I'm also in school for Computer Engineering, and have been a hobby programmer since I was around 14 working with Python, C, and GLSL shaders, so I can script pretty much anything as well. I would say my main weaknesses when approaching a task like this are Sculpting, Spriting, and Painting, so to any drawfags/artfags with skills: I invite you to contribute on whatever projects we end up embarking on.

So in case you didn't hear about some of the stuff people have found digging through the files of Alyx but Half-Life 3 literally died for this game as in the assets for the cancelled Half-Life 3 game are still in Source 2's coding and even the weapons for the game are still packaged in the model files.
Also it turns out Alyx is just a reworked Half-Life short story as people found the normal non-VR files for the game and it was just a tech demo that was 40 minutes long, the VR stuff was just slapped on and it was turned into a full game.
TL;DR: Alyx is just the greedy cash grab on the Half-Life name we all knew it was and the proof was literally in the pudding.

what vidya does bunkerchan like
R: 1 / I: 0 /
I've finally realized after many years of contemplation the perfect way to do skill checks and other things of that nature in video games:
Present the player with a dice roll and then allow them to decide whether it works or not. Take the example of a pickpocket attempt that has a 50% chance of success. Typically what would happen is the player preforms the action and is then told whether it succeed or failed. If they don't like the results they reload. The New Way would involve the player preforming the action and then being presented with the resulting dice roll and themselves have to decide whether to play along or not.
Trying to circumvent the players agency by meta punishing them with autosaving and things of that nature always struck me as futile and misguided(Also why I think karma system are bad but that's another story). I agree cheating is bad, but this way you can see the truth of why it is laid out in front of you. Its honest, and likely more engaging.

What is bunkerchan's opinion of Tom Nook from Animal Crossing?
I've seen a lot of leftist argue that he deserves the bullet because he's a property owner, but others have said that in the game he gives away more than he could ever turn a profit from.
Does this mean he gets a pass?
I personally think Isabelle should be given critical support and usurp power from him at some point in time so that she could implement communal type measures after Nook industrializes the island using your labor, but it's almost as if the game is trying to say that Tom Nook is a necessary evil to get to modern communal living. The game doesn't really valorize his actions, either. He's a tanooki, and in Japanese folklore they are seen as tricksters by nature. In this way, he exists more as an anthropomorphized analog for the duplicity of the capitalist. Yet despite this, he also isn't as harsh as a modern capitalist might be. He doesn't tack on interest, have a set-in-stone timeline when you're supposed to pay him back, and won't ever repossess your home if you refuse to pay him. In this way, he represents more of the fantastical benevolent capitalist that Americans idealize.
The only conclusion I've been able to come to is that the developers themselves are a bit confused about who Tom Nook really is.

Let's discuss the shitshow that is TLOU2. Is the leaker right? Is the story shit?
Personally I have always hated the first one and that the plot twists and turns that people hate so much in the sequel are a direct continuation of the extremely cringe and tryhard storytelling of the first one

/leftypol/ HOI League
Hello friends, since we're all bored I wondered if anyone wants to play competitive/team HOI? Ideally with like 6-7 players to hit all the major nations in whatever mod we end up playing, though perhaps more realistically 3-4. Anyone interested?

why the FUCK is Oblivion/Morrowind so FUCKING DIFFICULT?
Seriously, I made an unarmed khajiit adept in theft and other based shit.
I did a bunch of theifs guild shit and did a bunch of fighters guild shit. I can finally kill enemies and I was finally feeling happy. I went to this cave near caldera that had a bunch of Dedra worshipers in it, I guess cause there was some random book of dedra in there. I made it to level 8 and I walk outside and I am immediantly bombsarded by a fucking clif rider and two fucking alits and now I am stuck in this fucking gay ass cave and have no idea what to do now. I tried running and I finally was making it back into a fucking city AND THEN THE FUCKING GAME CRASHED ==WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK MORROWIND? HOW THE FUCK DID ANYONE EVER PLACE THIS GOD DAMN SHIT!? I am fucking pissed beyond all belieF!!!

>Fallout 76 that FINALLY added NPCs
>Still doesn't fix the core issues of the game
>Fallout 1st is still a thing
>Atom shop is still a thing
>Bethesda is still shit
>They still call you idiots for buying their broken shit
<Fanboys give it a mostly positive rating on Steam

I feel like the industry push towards micro transactions and away from fully developed product is a way to hinder piracy online.
I just download skyrim and the sims totally for free with no issues, but, I tried to download Starcraft II and It's a fucking mammoth of a task to get it to work properly with out an internet connect. How can we even go about pirating games that require online play or whatever nonsense they are trying to peddle to make virtually free and perfect commodities cost money,?
Does anyone else feel this way?

Daggerfall Unity only takes 1 minute to install and mods are easy.
Follow the video instructions. The files needed are here:
Recommend these videos for info on mods:
Mods are easy to install. All you have to do for most of the mods is go through to DaggerfallUnity_Data > StreamingAssets > Mods -- dump the dfmod files in the mod folder... But certain mods will have questpacks and instructions. You place the questpacks in a questpack folder and sometimes another folder depending on the mod.
Mountains and Hills
DREAM - (but cut out interface/UI and mobs, imo--might have to delete part of that in the folder--changes cursor. I deleted UI, mobs, portraits, and sounds)
Wilderness NPCs (remember to edit this one; it's easy to edit mods via launcher)
Tedious Travel (for RP extra travel--takes away fast travel)
Quest Pack 1
Warm Ashes (quest pack; pay attention to installation instructions)

Spanish civil war videogames
I've noticed a lack of Spanish civil war games, especially shooters. The thing is that there exist many mods for popular games about it, so there is an active comunity looking for one.

Have you guys ever played these two masterpieces? Literally no modern historical city building game can compete with these two, they are the most polished, well designed games I've ever seen.
Caesar III which was already great, was succeeded by the much superior Pharaoh, which expanded on what Caesar had already done right, and made it even better, and was so succesful that even had an "DLC" with many more levels.
Also, you guys can use this thread to share your custom maps aswell

Steam and possibly other online digital distribution stores will be forced to let you resell games you buy from them if EU wins court case.
Would this be a win for socialism, komrades?
