Can we have a The Witcher thread? My favorite game series possibly ever. I know 3 made the series very popular which caused a lot of /v/ backlash, but I nonetheless love the whole universe and story, all the books and games.

>>2274 Why does The Chaddest of Chads hate portals?
>>2524 Likely answer: it is cold and make the stomach dizzy. Schizo answer: they are matter relocators, so when you step through you get dissolved and recreated elsewhere, meaning your actual consciousness gets killed, and it is your copy that moves on. >>2523 That's interesting. The Nilfgaard camp did feel kind of unused I guess. Weird that they would cut such a large chunk of quests. Did they have to fulfill an undelayable preorder date?
it sucks, missions are all boring as shit, just can't bring myself to finsih the game
>>2525 >your actual consciousness gets killed, and it is your copy that moves on. But this is clearly a universe where souls exist so it wouldn't work that way.

Hunt Showdown anyone? >mfw pulled back from the brink of party wipe after fighting several parties killed the second boss with one remaining partner and the game disconnects. This game is against me. One time I win by tooth and nail the servers shit themselves.
>>3627 >implying most of it isnt just falseflagging /pol/tards

I play CSGO and Valorant. I'm MG in CSGO and Gold in Valorant. >>3613 Yes. You can't play competitive team games for shit without it.
I'm not extroverted and competitive enough to play multiplayer. I would just lose so others could win.

What did you think of this game? Are the other worth it? What analysis can we make out of it? I just beat it because I forgot I had it and it was great

>>3597 Gameplay isn't that incredible, in the end it's still just a RPG Maker game, but the way it's used is interesting. In Painful you don't have any good or bad choices, the game will just try to be cruel with you (by removing your arm thus decreasting you attack permanently for example, in the scenario you have the choice between this and killing your ally). I didn't find it as hard as people claim it to be though, the endgame is surprisingly easy (again I think it was intentional).

I didn't really like or understand why Buddy hated Brad and what was her goal.
>>3600 Nice! Seeing Brad with an apple made me smile. >>3631 She was never allowed to call him dad or seeing him as such growing up, he did drugs in front of her and forced her to kill people at a young age. She never got to discover the world or get in touch with others. Once she was kidnapped she realized how fucked up her situation was (in absolute, it's not more fucked up than any other options she has imo). I guess her goal was to get away from him and finding her own identity as soon as she knew this was possible. She probably doesn't have a lot of empathy as a (abused) child and even if she says she understood Brad's trauma, that's false. He never told her about Lisa. Her character isn't that great or even likeable, but it's not a typical brat either. I don't get what are Austin's views of his female characters though, as he said that Lisa was the one behind all the mess in Painful.

Just listened to a bunch of old Sonic soundtracks and felt pretty nostalgic. Thought we could have a thread to sperg out about nostalgia. What old games from your childhood do you feel nostalgic about? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQhYFNqp4nE&t https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZXGzki_qww

Playing through Metroid Prime Trilogy, currently on 2. https://youtu.be/4YRLIgWnHlo?t=17 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuPJm2XQT0A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwjcq8Vwt24 KB+M support for console exclusive shootan games is a godsend.
>>3589 And totally unnecessary in a game like Metroid Prime.
>>3591 >And totally unnecessary So is KB+M on Goldeneye and Perfect Dark and everyone can agree it makes the games more fun.
>>3605 No, I'm afraid I can't. The games simply weren't designed for it.

What is the longest game you've ever beaten in a single sitting? Do you notice any characteristics about that game that made it compelling enough to play for so long without break?
9 posts and 3 images omitted.
>>3011 I don't remember Chrono Trigger being short enough for one sitting.
>>3494 It's not padded so you don't notice all the hours
civilization 5 over 9 hours w/ mods, it was fun as there was always something i was planning or looking towards - eg. "if i research this and that, i can get that wonder" or "i can sense a war coming soon, i should mobilize my army and economy, maybe try and get that technology so i can get an edge in combat" as well as constantly having to balance resources and manage my luxury resources + trading with other nations
>>2987 kind of sad really but my most cherished family memory is going through mgs2 in one session with my brothers back in the day.
>>2987 Frostpunk in 8 hours or so. It's basically a cinematic citybuilder. I basically lose all control when it comes to autistic building games like C:SL or Transport Fever 2. The addition of a melodrama to vindicate my autism is completely irresistable.

>>3524 VR has activities which fit the bill, yes.
>>3525 My friends and I can toss around a bag of shit and call that a game too, but that doesn't make the bag of shit itself a game.
>>3526 The activity of tossing it is a game. Projectile can be anything. VR is more analogous to the real world and its laws of physics that allow you to play.
>>3517 It's a fuckin joke you idiot. Also how is anime-furry solidarity 'reactionary' anyways

Level Design Comrade 08/04/2020 (Tue) 03:22:41 No. 3480 [Reply] [Last]
What do you think constitutes great level design? Let's put together some examples of levels we really like and see if we can't figure out something in common between them.
2 posts omitted.
>>3480 The level should have shortcuts that are opened up through progress. This cuts down travel time as the game progresses and gives the player a sense of pride and accomplishments.
(1.03 MB 4264x2648 MetalSlug2-Mission2.png)
>>3506 What about linear levels?
Only good part of this piece of shit game >>3507 I mean, when it comes to shmups and similar arcadey genres, level design has barely anything to do with geometry and more with how you set up the mood, the setting and encounters/obstacles for the player to struggle against, almost like you're 'directing' the action as if it was a movie. You can barely tell anything about how it plays from a static image that just shows the pretty pixels.

(421.70 KB 7950x1628 overdrive-ostrich-stage.png)
Armored Armadillo's and Overdrive Ostrich's stages from Mega Man X1 and X2 are two of my favorite stages in the whole Mega Man franchise. Maybe it's because I love going fast! On the other hand, I have always hated the bike segments in Mega Man 5, X4, and X5. Like many others, I also dislike the mine cart stages that Rareware seemed to have a fetish for in all the Donkey Kong Country games. The difference is in Mega Man X and X2's speed-focused stages the player has the option to stop, slow down, or leave third ride entirely. The other stages, on the other hand, are entirely on-rails autoscrollers that limit the player's controls. Thesis: Removing already-established control from the player for the sake of spectacle is bad game/level design.

Hoi4 central planning system Shaytan 08/04/2020 (Tue) 02:21:02 No. 3475 [Reply] [Last]
Do pics related count as "central planning"?
its only the military production that you can control
HoI4 really isn't an economy simulator. It's a war sim.
>>3481 >>3477 yes, i'd say the minimum necessary to be a central planning sim you'd have to have the inputs of employment and scarcity. Some of the challenge has to be maintaining full employment and managing resources

yes
